New Works: The Marshes

I am so pleased to finally be sharing my latest body of work with you all, it has been a long time coming! These 19 pieces of work were started as the country went into lockdown and completed at the end of June. They vary from large 120cm x 120cm canvases, to smaller oil paintings on board.

This body of work came from my weekly dawn walks that I began in lockdown. These walks gave me such wonderful inspiration, when the world around us all seemed very grey. Everything seemed very quiet and calm at 5 in the morning and this stillness became a comfort.

The colours down by the lakes were so stunning and the skies seemed so vast (especially without any planes!). I found myself losing track of time and using my phone to snap as many videos and photos as I could. I did try doing some loose sketches whilst sitting by the marshes, but my fingers FROZE and the dog also began to shiver!

These lake walks were my initial inspiration, but as lockdown continued my evening dog walks in May/June gave my work another direction, one of beautiful warm sunshine and views across the fields outside of the village.

At the time of painting this body of work I was living and breathing painting. It was such a happy time for me. I couldn’t stop painting and I loved it. I also began to get back in the studio after the initial lockdown and I think this comes across within my work, it seems bolder and braver and more playful.
